Did you know that the Nairobi county government reviewed the advertising license rates? The new rates are well classified and easy to understand as well as straightforward. But there are procedures that we cannot overlook making the process seamless, quick, and business-friendly.
The urban design and development section is mandated with the responsibility of the planning, guiding, and coordinating the urban realm with a view to achieving integrated urban public spaces through sustainable urban design practices.
The processing of Outdoor advertisements and Signage applications is divided into two categories;
- High Impact Advertisements; – This includes Billboards, Sky signs, Wall wraps, Hoarding, Screens, and LED screens. They are submitted by a registered physical planner through a duly signed PPA 1 form.
- Low Impact Advertisements; – They include small signage and directional signs placed under/above or on the face of the canopy. The applicant is required to provide detailed plans, sections, elevations, and location plans.
APPROVAL PROCESS FOR HIGH-IMPACT LICENSE ADVERTISEMENTS
This process has 7 steps for advertising as follows;
i. The proposal is submitted by the agency to the Nairobi County offices.
ii. It is recorded in the ledger and forwarded to the assistant Directors office.
iii. They are evaluated and marked out to relevant technical officers for processing. This is guided by the existing Outdoor advertising policy and By-laws. The officers also ensure that all relevant appendices are included. I.e. Architectural drawings, design simulation, ownership documents, and agreements.
iv. It also involves site visits which assist in evaluating site suitability.
v. A site report is done by the officer and attached to the application.
vi. It is then copied to relevant departments for consideration.
vii. It is approved after meeting all mandatory requirements or rejected altogether.
APPROVAL PROCESS FOR LOW-IMPACT ADVERTISEMENTS
This has 8 steps as follows;
i. The proposal is submitted by the agency to the Nairobi County offices.
ii. It is recorded in the ledger and forwarded to the assistant Directors office.
iii. They are evaluated and marked out to relevant technical officers for processing.
iv. The proposals are then handed to licensing clerks for invoicing.
v. The agency then makes the necessary payments and returns a copy of the receipt and invoice to the clerks.
vi. They are then forwarded to the payment verification desk where through IFMIS, this is achieved.
vii. When payments are certified, they are forwarded back to the clerks for license drafting
The licenses are then forwarded to authorized officers, certified, and signed.
After going through either of the above procedures, you are assured of advert safety, compliance, and licensing, therefore, protecting your business against log officers and county council imposters.
